Some of the interesting facts which came to the light during discussion are:

a.
Block Exemption Legislation: This is legislation came into force a few years back and was recently amended to help and protect the dealerships’ interest vis-à-vis termination, appointment of new dealerships and to avoid contracts heavily loaded in favour o the manufacturers.

b.
Car-wise Scheme (Code of Conduct for RMI Members): This is a new scheme enunciating Code of Conduct for Automobile Dealers, which has been launched by the Government, but will be monitored b RMI. RMI would create a Monitoring Cell and conduct surveys to ensure that the RMI members are following the Code of Conduct prescribed for the benefit of customers. The responsibility now lies with RMI to penalize its members, if they do not follow the Code. This not only confers recognition on RMI but also enhances its manufacturers as well as consumers. RMI, as a monitoring agency, charges £100 per annum from all its members for this activity.

c.
Helpline: RMI has started a Helpline Service to offer advice on legal matters, various laws governing dealerships particularly laws governing manufacturer-dealer relations, consumer laws, relations with vendors, etc. RMI members have found the service very useful.

d.
Membership: Currently RMI has about 10,000 members, including franchised dealers, Authorised Services Centers, Independent Garages, Petrol Pumps, Tyre Dealers, etc. The membership fee for franchise dealers starts from £800 per annum and may go up to £2,000 per annum depending on a dealer’s manpower strength and number of outlets. Authorized Service Centers and Independent Garages pay £350 per annum. 90% to 95% members pay their yearly subscription, which is a main source of income for RMI.

e.
Dealer Academy: RMI has 6/7 Dealer Academies that provide training to dealers’ personnel. These academies conduct some courses or the manufacturers as well. The academies have provide quite useful for RMI members and also help generate additional revenue for RMI.
