Two enterprising and enthusiastic Poomkudy brothers, John and Zacharias from an agricultural family of Travancore, in Kerala, ventured into business in 1979 as distributors for automobile spare parts with a handful of agency lines. The business grew fast and soon a number of branches came up in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

After gaining the expertise in automobile spare parts business, Poomkudy group diversified into automobile dealership business in 2002 by associating with Bajaj Tempo Ltd (BTL), as their authorised dealer for vehicle sales, service and spare parts in Kochi and BTL depot operator in Kerala. Within a span of one year, Poomkudy Tempo was recognised as the "Star Dealer" of BTL in India.

Today, with automobile dealership business and as one of the leading distribution houses for spare parts, having 7 well equipped branches in strategic locations of South India, backed by an excellent sales and service network, Poomkudy Agencies (P) Ltd has emerged as a professionally managed successful and fast growing business house.

Poomkudy group, having achieved stupendous success in a short span of time, did not rest on its laurels. Visualising the shift in spare parts business from retailers to service centres and super markets, Poomkudy Agencies shifted its focus on service centres/garages of new generation vehicles. Poomkudy also forged partnership with other regional wholesalers to redistribute products in interior locations for providing better coverage and service to customers in this rapidly changing business environment.

Having already established a modern state-of-the-art 3 "S" facility, Poomkudy Tempo is forging ahead to greater heights. New BTL high-tech LCVs and HCVs, in collaboration with MAN, Germany and CRDI Engine with Daimler Benz and many new variants of 3 and 4 Wheelers in the pipeline, Poomkudy Tempo expects a giant leap in business in the next 3 years. With strategic planning, Poomkudy group is aiming at a growth in business to Rupees 100 crore in 2007.

Poomkudy Tempo operating in Ernakulam district, has a spacious and modern showroom facing National Highway for display and sale of vehicles, at Poomkudy House, NH 47 Road, Edappally, Kochi.

The other showroom is located at XXII/15, NH 49, Kadathy East, Market PO, Muvattupuzha to explore the large opportunities for LCV s and 3 wheelers in high ranges. The main features and facilities at the showroom are: 3,500 sq ft office and administrative block with spacious reception, customer lounge, spare parts division, managers' cabins, staff canteen and staff training centre; 7,500 sq ft Kirby built factory shed for mechanical repairs with all modern equipments and tools, utilities and service rooms; 8,000 sq ft factory shed for accidental repairs, washing ramps and hoists, paint booth, generator etc; a large and well-designed spare parts shop; 25,000 sq ft tarred parking area with lush green grass and plants around the service facility; and factory trained team of experienced technicians.

Poomkudy Tempo is further widening its network by opening branches in different locations in Kerala for sales and service of vehicles.

BTL, Kochi depot, equipped with the most modern facilities, has fully computerised operations with 24-hour dedicated high band width internet cable connectivity for uninterrupted depot operations; 50,000 sq ft vehicle parking area; modern office & customer lounge with excellent communication system; 24-hour security and continuous service to BTL dealers from 9 am to 5 pm on all working days.

Poomkudy also has plans to expand its spare parts network and to explore new opportunities for export of auto components.

Zacharias Poomkudy, CEO of the organisation, is a Chartered Accountant by qualification, having 25 years' experience in distribution of automobile spare parts business. He has been President of Ernakulam District Automobile Spare Parts Dealers Association for the past 13 years and has made remarkable contribution in the growth of the Association. He was also the President of the Federation of All Kerala Auto Parts Dealers Association for 6 years. Under his leadership, the Federation fruitfully negotiated with the Kerala Government, several core issues of concern to auto trade in Kerala, culminating in major changes in Government policies for the benefit of spare parts traders in the State.
